Who are we?

The Gulf House for Studies and Publishing is a think tank based in the British capital, London. It works as a research institution and publishing house – a non-profit – concerned with producing and publishing monitoring, analysis, and strategic and in-depth studies on policies and issues related to the Gulf states and their regional neighbourhood.

The Gulf House for Studies and Publishing was established in 2014 and is headquartered in London, United Kingdom.

Vision and tools

The Gulf House for Studies and Publishing seeks to be an influential and reliable knowledge reference in the political, social and economic studies and files of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and its neighbourhood, as its research contributes to enhancing an in-depth understanding of policies and transformations in the region, in addition to providing usable insights to decision makers and societal elites.

In order to do this, the Gulf House produces and disseminates independent and in-depth analytical knowledge, including:

First: Preparing and publishing follow-up reports and objective analysis of political, social and economic events and phenomena.
Second: Producing and developing standard research indicators, such as the political participation index in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
Third: Providing strategic studies and papers concerned with regional and international variables and events.
Fourth: Organizing workshops, focus groups and research meetings.

Research areas and main topics

Political Participation Index for the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries: This index provides an annual overview and scientific monitoring of the degree of political, social and cultural participation, and is unique in that it is the first specialized research publication concerned with measuring the degree of political participation in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. It is distinguished by the fact that it combines the totality of conceptual contexts (academic, international agreements and covenants, knowledge and practical experiences), and the specificities, circumstances of emergence, and structure of the governance systems in the Arab Gulf states.

Geopolitics Analyzing power maps and balances of influence in the Gulf region and the Middle East by dismantling the dynamics of competition and alliance between regional and international actors, as well as monitoring shifts in the strategic environment and the impact of regional conflicts and crises on Gulf security and stability. This field focuses on understanding the logic of political behavior of states, paths to reshaping the regional order, and the intersections of interests between local and external powers.

Economy: We are interested in analyzing the transformations in the economies of the Gulf countries, including public financial policies, economic diversification strategies, and transformations in the labor and investment markets. This field addresses the relationship between the state’s economic choices and the resulting social and political transformations, with a critical reading of the challenges of financial sustainability and development.
Good Governance: We address patterns of state administration and the performance of institutions from the perspective of institutional quality and the effectiveness of public policies. This field focuses on issues such as efficient decision-making, coordination between authorities, rule of law, administrative transparency and accountability. The goal is to analyze how the state works, the limits of its ability to respond to social and economic transformations, and the shortcomings – if any – in the management of public affairs.
Sociology of Societies: We are interested in studying and understanding variables in social structures and differences in ethnicities and collective identities, as well as determinants and transformations in the state’s relationship with society. This field focuses on patterns of social adaptation to public policies, and the mutual impact between development policies and society, while analyzing the underlying tensions and requirements for achieving the modern state and stable citizenship for the various components of society.

Women’s Issues: We are interested in women’s position in the social, political, and economic transformations in the Gulf countries, through analyzing public policies related to women’s rights, empowerment, and patterns of participation in the public sphere and the labor market.
